Aha! I knew you'd scan the QR code, you little gossip
Alright, long story short...
On June 1st, I received this email:
Her:
Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I still haven't received my order. It said it would arrive before May 29th.
I'm guessing that's just an automatic delivery estimate Shopify gives when someone places an order. But as many of you already know (because I've mentioned it on Instagram and it's also written in the product description), all Mail Club subscriptions are shipped on the first day of every month.
So I replied:
Me:
Hi! As mentioned in the product description, all Mail Club subscription orders are shipped on the first day of each month. Which means... today is shipping day! 🙌🏻
She never replied, so I assumed everything was clear.
But... the next day I got this message on Instagram:
Her:
Hi! I placed an order for the Mail Club in May. It said it would arrive around May 29th and I still haven't received anything.
Since I knew it was the same person, I replied:
Me:
Hi! Didn't you receive the email I sent you yesterday? 👀
Quick question...
What does the 👀 emoji mean to you?
Because to me, it just makes the conversation feel a little less serious. 😂
She didn't reply that day either.
BUT... TWELVE DAYS LATER I got this message:
Hi. I didn't appreciate how rude your reply was. I'm also a seller, and that's not how you respond to a customer. Anyway, my package still hasn't arrived. I paid on May 29th, today is June 14th and I still haven't received it. You told me it would ship on the 1st. I don't know where it's coming from, but it still isn't here. Could you please refund me?
I have SO many things I'd like to say about that message...
But let's keep reading. 😀
So I replied:
Me:
Umm... I didn't ask for advice on how to run my business. You contacted me on two different platforms and I replied to you right away by email. I don't see what was rude about that, but that's your opinion, not mine.
(Oops... if she thought I was rude before, this definitely didn't help. I was running very low on patience that day. 👉🏻👈🏻)
She replied:
Could you refund me? My package still hasn't arrived. I was really excited to be part of your community, but if nothing shows up... then never mind.
(That last message actually made me feel bad, so I calmed down a bit and explained that if a letter ever gets lost, I simply send another one. Since I was traveling, I asked her to wait a few more days and told her that if it still didn't arrive, I'd happily send a replacement once I got back.)
She told me she lived in the United States and then asked:
Can you send me the tracking number?
Me:
Hmm... that's strange. Letters to the U.S. usually arrive about a week after they're mailed. But since they're sent as standard letter mail, there's no tracking.
(Fun fact in case you didn't know: Mail Club letters travel the old-fashioned way—with stamps. 💌 That type of mail doesn't include tracking because it's the most affordable way to send letters, both domestically and internationally.)
She replied:
Everything has tracking.
Me:
Nope.
USPS doesn't let you track regular stamped letters.
She insisted:
Yes, it does. I ship things every day through USPS.
Me:
You can always ask USPS if you'd like. If it doesn't arrive this week, let me know. Normally letters to the U.S. arrive in about five business days. Maybe ten at the absolute most, but that's usually for places like Spain, not the U.S.
And that's how the conversation ended:
Just forget it dont send anything your service is bad u dont even send what people pay for and ur rude thats rude btw i said rude bc u were rude u dont even know how ur own shipping works thats why people say dont buy from small businesses this was totally my fault for trusting u im not giving u advice its just common sense be polite theres better ways to answer like "hi i already replied by email but i dont mind answering here too :)" customers are the ones keeping ur business alive without them u have no business at all good luck with ur business blessings
At that point, I decided not to reply anymore.
Honestly, I was busy and didn't feel like spending more time arguing with someone who had already decided I was in the wrong.
But the whole situation did make me think about something.
If you're kind to me, I'll be kind to you.
I usually use lots of emojis when I text because I like people to feel close to me, and I really hope they come across that way. 🥹
But I also have boundaries.
If someone thinks that because they're a customer they can treat me badly and I just have to accept it... well, friend, I think you've come to the wrong place. 🥊
Let's treat each other the way we'd like to be treated.
At the end of the day, I'm not trying to look like some huge company.
I'm just trying to be myself.
And I'm a real person.
If I don't type out the exact same answer again after I already sent it to you yesterday—and maybe you didn't read it because you were busy—it's probably because... I was busy too.
So let's all do our little part and remember that neither of us is a machine. 🤝
Alright... enough gossip for today.
Honestly, it wasn't the biggest drama in the world. 😬 But I was surprised by how quickly I ended up having my very first customer disagreement. Haha.
And if you've ever worked in customer service, you probably know this kind of thing happens all the time.
But don't worry...
I'd never talk to you like that.
You're different. 🫦
HAHAHA.
Thanks for reading. ♥
